PATA Travel Mart takes centre stage in Hyderabad

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)Travel Mart 2008 (PTM), Asia Pacific's best travel contracting and networking show, will be held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad, India on September 16-19.

Thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the State of Andhra Pradesh, the historical city of Hyderabad will host the prestigious event accordingly. As India's "Incredible India" media campaign has placed Indian tourism on the world map, this year's PTM will be the ideal platform to showcase India's tourism destinations and products.

Hyderabad itself is now considered as one of the most happening cities in the world being developed as the transit hub between Europe and China. Also, Hyderabad is the "IT" hub of India and prominently features Hitec City. The new international airport has virtually transformed Hyderabad into the most sought tourist destination in India, along with New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.

Having landed in Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) last Saturaday night (September 13) from Sri Lanka, I wondered how modern this airport looked like. Immigration and customs were quickly done. There were service desks of the more well-known hotels of NOVOTEL, TAJ and MARRIOTT. To book a budget accommodation room, there was a service desk of the Thomas Cook Company. Two money changing banks were also operating.

The event venue HICC is located a 30 minutes drive from the airport and is linked to the Novotel Hyderabad, which offers 288 elegant rooms and 5 bar & restaurant outlets. For the convenience of delegates, official shuttle motor coaches connect PTM2008 official hotels with the convention centre for luncheons and dinner receptions.

PTM2008 delegates with late departures from Hyderabad on September 20 are invited to the newly openen Novotel Hyderabad Airport Hotel, which is located just 5 minutes from RGIA. Complimentary cocktails, snacks and internet facilities will be served in a special Departure Lounge on this day only until 23.00 o'clock. The hotel features 305 spacious rooms and excellent dining options.

Special thanks go to Air India and Jet Airways for supporting and sponsoring the usual PTM hosted buyer program. Other supporting airlines are Cathay Pacific, JAL, Sri Lankan and Thai. Actually, only SriLankan Airlines offerd a 50% discount on tickets to Hyderabad, for which I have opted in Bangkok as a media delegate.

Interesting to note is that an Indian Tourist Visa application takes 5 working days to process, but the 70USD visa obtained in Bangkok makes sure that you can travel in India for 6 months with multiple entries.

Last not least, there will be the PTM2008 eDirectory and Addendum listing all PTM2008 Buyer and Seller delegates. After the completion of PTM2008, the eDirectory will be hosted online for one year at PATA's web-site: www.PATA.org/ptm08_eDirectory.exe
