HYDERABAD, INDIA, Sep 30, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- Having a routine can be comforting, but it can also get a little boring. To make sure guests of the Hyderabad Marriott Hotel & Convention Centre always have something new to look forward to, the Altitude Lounge Bar offers an exciting calendar that brings a different experience to this 5 star Hyderabad Hotel every night of the week.

Named Best Lounge Bar in Hyderabad by the Times Food and Nightlife Awards 2013, Altitude is located on the 8th floor of this Hyderabad conference hall hotel, and offers a breathtaking view of Hussain Sagar Lake. The restaurant-lounge is the perfect place to meet with colleagues for dinner or the daily happy hour, when all beverages are 50% off between 5 and 8pm.

The week kicks off at this Hyderabad luxury hotel lounge with Monday Mayhem, when shooters are free until the bar turns its traffic light to red. On Tuesday, experience India's hottest club music with Nocturnal House, when hip-hop and desi beats will keep guests on the dance floor until the early hours. Wednesday hosts an After Dark after-hours party, while Thursday's Rock Retro & Refuel features live rock and retro and exotic cocktails. The weekend is in full swing with Friday's Melange Madness, fusing live music with a DJ, and Saturday's Indulge Like a Queen, when ladies get the VIP treatment and high heels score discounts. Recover from a hectic week with laid-back Siesta Sundays.

The menu at this Hyderabad banquet hall bar offers plenty of options to keep things refreshing and exciting. In addition to an extensive list of wine and whiskey, guests will find an array of classic and special cocktails. Try the Aviation (gin, cherry liqueur and lemon juice), a Melon Ball (vodka, melon and orange juice), a Kentucky Coffee (Maker's Mark, demerara sugar, black coffee and whipped cream) or, for the teetotaler, the Nawab's Punch (fruit juices, vanilla ice cream and condensed milk).

Between all the drinks and dancing, visitors are sure to work up an appetite, and the hotel has created a menu that's filled with creative small and large plates. Order snacks to share including Moroccan spiced cashew nuts with garlic crust; spring rolls stuffed with soya-braised green vegetables accompanied by a sweet chili sauce; crisp-friend cottage cheese (paneer) stuffed with spicy chutney; Southern-style spiced fish served with mint chutney; or buttermilk fried chicken with sweet chili sauce. For larger appetites, they have created original and inspired dishes such as porcini and green pea risotto; fish filet simmered in turmeric-scented coconut curry; saffron-scented lamb curry with fermented bread and a variety of biryani dishes.

Marriott to add 24 new hotels by 2012

Luxury hotel chain Marriott International will open 24 new properties in India over the next three years. The company, which largely operates through management contracts, has sealed the deal for the properties with real estate developers.

Some of these are regional players, like K Raheja Corporation (Mumbai), Salgaonkar (Goa), Viceroy Hotels (Hyderabad) and Panchshil Realty (Pune).

Marriott will launch six properties this year. Of these, the Courtyard Marriott in Pune will be the first to open. Subsequently, four more Courtyard-branded properties would come up in Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The sixth would be operated under the Marriott brand. In all, the company intends to have 14 hotels operating under the Courtyard brand.

The hospitality major currently has six properties in Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad and Chennai and operates through five different brands, including Marriott, JW Marriott, Courtyard, Renaissance and Marriott Executive Apartments.

Rajeev Menon, Marriott International, Inc’s area vice-president for India, Malaysia, Maldives and Pakistan, said, “Our focus for expansion will be pan-India. We have signed up for properties for 24 hotels and we are in discussions with our real estate partners for further additions.”

The five Courtyard-branded properties, which will be operational this year, are in Ahmedabad (150 rooms, in August), Gurgaon (200 rooms, month yet to be finalised), Hyderabad (164 rooms, in October), Pune (153 rooms, in May) and Mumbai (340 rooms, in December).

Recently, a number of international hotel companies — like MGM Mirage Hospitality, Wyndham Hotel Group, Langham Hotel International, Corinthia Hotels & Resorts, Jumeriah Group, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, Swissotel Hotels & Resorts and Hampshire Hotels & Resorts — either indicated their plans to enter India, or made announcements about expansion.

However, a significant drop in tourist inflows into the country, following the economic slowdown and also due to the threat from terrorism, has eroded the margins of most of the top hotel operating companies in India.

In addition, due to the financial meltdown, many international hotel companies were apprehensive about launching newer properties in developed as well as emerging markets. In India alone, plans of launching about 50 new properties were shelved.

“Typically, hotels are constructed over a period of 3-4 years. So our properties, which began construction 2-3 years ago, will open for operation according to their earlier schedule. Like everyone else, we too have been impacted by the slowdown. But our plans are still on track,” said Menon.

Star hotels Asked to boost Security

HYDERABAD: The City police has advised the star hotels to strengthen their security arrangements by engaging the services of ex-servicemen and Special Protection Force (SPF) as security personnel. Officials of the City Security Wing (CSW) held a meeting with the security managers of star hotels to beef up their security systems in the wake of terrorist attacks. The meeting was attended by more than 40 managers of different hotels.“The managements of the hotels are advised to engage ex-army personnel for security with firearms to retaliate in case of armed attack. Armed police will be provided on payment,” the CSW officials said. The managements were asked to install security gadgets like closed circuit cameras, door frame metal detectors, baggage scanners and also deployment of a full-fledged bomb disposal squad with sniffer dogs on their own. In case of emergencies, they were asked to create escape routes for evacuation, a public address system fitted in each room to alert the guests in case of emergency. A mock blast was demonstrated and the managements were shown samples of various explosives.

Hotel majors' plans unshaken despite downturn

In spite of the recession, international hotel chains are not holding back their investments in India. For example, Vikram 'Sant' Chatwal, chairman and chief executive of Hampshire Hotels, has said he is looking to invest Rs5,000 crore by 2012-13 in hotel properties in Kochi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Europe's Movenpick Hotels & Resorts also wants to manage 15 hotels in India by 2015, according to a Moneycontrol report. Swissotel Hotels & Resorts and Corinthia Hotels, along with US-based Berggruen Hotels, plan five mid-priced hotels under the Keys brand in Tier I and II cities, with an investment of $21 million.

MGM Mirage Hospitality, HK's Shama Group, Langham Hotels International, and the UAE-based Jumeirah plan to service 136 upscale room apartments in November in Bangalore.

Existing chains too are going ahead with expansion plans. France-based Accor Hospitality is to introduce nearly 10,000 rooms. Chicago-based Global Hyatt Corporation also has major expansion plans for India.

Tourism Secretary Sujit Banerjee says India needs additional 150,000 rooms, of which 100,000 rooms should be in the budget category.

According to hospitality consultant HVS, international and domestic hotels plan to build at least 114,000 rooms in India, but only 47,000 rooms are actually under construction.

Chatwal too pointed out that India is still facing huge shortage of rooms, and the economic downturn presents an opportunity, as the cost of development and construction is lower.

Task Force personnel expose lax security in Hyderabad hotels

According to the Times of India, Task Force decoy teams were deployed to check security measures adopted by star category hotels in Hyderabad, post the Mumbai terror attacks. The teams successfully managed to enter the Marriott, Taj Krishna and Grand Kakatiya properties armed with fire-arms, sharp weapons and gelatin sticks.

The Task Force personnel drove up in private cars and entered the hotel’s restaurants; the security personnel at the properties neglected to frisk them. After the exercise, the security head of each hotel was contacted and informed of the security breaches on their respective properties. The police commissioner will receive a report regarding the same.
